Important Membership Notice

The Austin Emergency Nurses Association is providing a very special opportunity for new membership.  A limited number of memberships will be available for 1/2 price.  That means if you qualify you can become a new member of the ENA for only $48.00 for the first year.  This will be part of a pilot project and will only available for this fiscal year.   You must be an ED nurse less than one year, not currently a member any chapter or SIG (Special Interest Group), and will be required to submit a letter from your employer to verify your employment status.  You must be within the Chpater 329 boundries (http://www.txena.org/Chapter%20Maps/329.Austin.pdf) as set  by the ENA.  If you know someone that is eligible please refer them to this website for the information or print the inforation that is to be mailed out to the AENA membership.  You may also conatct the chapter President, President Elect or the webmaster for more information or to have an application mailed to you.

Welcome to the Austin Emergency Nurses Association

The AENA is a nurses association dedicated to the education, advancement and support of emergency department nurses.  The AENA supports the mission statements and goals of the Texas Emergency Nurses Association and the ENA.  Our meetings are the third Tuesday of each even month.  Nurses are not required to be an ENA, TENA or AENA member to attend the meetings.  If you would like more information, please use the 'contact page' (http://www.austinena.net/contactaena.htm) on this website to get more information fom any board member.

Purpose

The Austin Emergency Nurses Association's goal is the professional and educational advancement of emergency nurses for the benefit of all patients.  The Austin ENA encourages nurses to get involved in the local, state and national levels of the Emergency Nurses Association.  ENA leads the way in knowledge, resources, and responsiveness for emergency nurses, their patients and families. The Austin ENA mirrors the Code of Ethics and Mission Statements of the Emergency Nurses Association.

ENA is a professional member organization recognized internationally for promoting excellence in emergency nursing through leadership, research, education, and advocacy.

ENA's Mission Objectives

    ENA Exists:
  • To promote the specialty of emergency nursing.
  • To promote the interests of ENA’s members and to improve the professional environment of the emergency nurse through education and public awareness.
  • To promote ethical principles as defined in the ENA Code of Ethics for Emergency Nurses and the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics.
  • To actively collaborate with other health related organizations to improve emergency care.
  • To be the primary resource for emergency nursing leadership, education, and research.
  • To define standards that serve as a basis for emergency nursing practice.
  • To develop, disseminate and evaluate emergency nursing education and research.
  • To encourage interaction and mentorship among emergency nurses.
  • To identify and disseminate information on key trends affecting and pertinent to emergency nursing.
  • To serve as an advocate for the public regarding emergency care.

ENA Code of Ethics

  • The emergency nurse acts with compassion and respect for human dignity and the uniqueness of the individual.
  • The emergency nurse maintains competence within, and accountability for, emergency nursing practice.
  • The emergency nurse acts to protect the individual when health care and safety are threatened by incompetent, unethical or illegal practice.
  • The emergency nurse exercises sound judgement in responsibility, delegating, and seeking consultation.
  • The emergency nurse respects the individual's right to privacy and confidentiality.
  • The emergency nurse works to improve public health and secure access to health care for all.
